The standing portrait depicts crown prince ‘Abbas Mirza (1789-1833), son of Fath ‘Ali Shah. In this painting, the young crown prince is portrayed wearing a gold ceremonial robe, covered in jewellery. His sword is suspended from his jeweled belt which is adorned with a string of pearl tassel. His crown has four points, set with pearls, emeralds, diamonds and precious stones. Known as an unpretentious man who dressed simply, here he is depicted as the young crown prince, an image of a future ruler. The items of adornment show the immense wealth possessed by his father.
