This pearl brooch is known as 'kerosang rantay' as it consists of three brooches held together by a chain. The pearls are set into each brooch in a floral pattern. It is used as fasteners on blouses and kebaya.Gold and pearls are an unusual combination for Peranakan jewellery. Gold is usually matched with diamonds or 'intan' whilst pearls, which are used primarily in mourning jewellery, tend to be matched with silver.
