Sierra 222 CTV 26 colour television console clad in a hardwood frame

This is a Sierra 222 CTV 26 colour television console clad in a hardwood frame. The first colour television programme transmission in Singapore was broadcasted in May 1974. The first 'live' colour telecast featured the World Cup football finals between Germany and Holland on 7 July 1974. News of the telecast created a huge surge of interest in colour televisions and 2,000 sets were sold on the day before the match. The donor bought this Sierra colour television in June 1974 for $2,390, which was a considerable amount of money given that the average worker earned between $300-500 per month in the 1970s. The annual radio licence fee was $12, while the fee for monochrome televisions was $36 and $54 for colour televisions.
