The National Museum, Presbyterian Church, Race Course and the Tanglin Club by C.J. Kleingrothe

The building which houses the National Museum today (then known as the Raffles Library and Museum) was completed in 1887. The foundation stone for the present Presbyterian Church at Stamford Road was laid on 1 August 1877 and the church cost approximately $20,000 to build. The old race course was built in 1842 and it was very popular with the European community. The race course was moved to Bukit Timah in 1933. The Tanglin Club, one of Singapore’s most exclusive and prominent social clubs, was founded in 1865. Although it was founded to cater to the social demands of the European community in Singapore, it has since opened its doors to other nationalities.
