This picture shows houses on stilts which are part of the Malay villages or 'kampongs' along the Kallang River estuary. The residents of these kampongs had to relocate to Kampong Melayu in the early 1930s due to reclamation of the Kallang Basin for the construction of the Kallang Airport.
