This postcard depicts a scene of a Malay village on the banks of the Kallang River. There are a few houses on stilts in the far right of the picture. Massive reclamation in the 1930s, for the construction of Kallang Airport, led to the relocation of residents from the Kampong Kallang area to Kampong Mellayu.
