This is an illustrated book by German artist Christian Wilhelm Allers who stopped at Singapore on 6 January 1898. He recorded his observations of street life and the different ethnic groups found in Singapore. His sketches also reflect how the European portrayal of Singapore moved from mostly panoramic, scenic views at the end of the 19th century to more close-up perspectives.
