Aerial view of Amber Mansion and the Orchard Road Presbyterian Church

The foundation stone for the present Presbyterian Church at Stamford Road was laid on 1 August 1877 and the church cost approximately $20,000 to build. Amber Mansions used to be a shopping centre along Orchard Road that housed premier and expensive boutiques. It was built in 1922 but demolished in 1984 to make way for the Dhoby Ghaut Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station.
