This miniature stoneware jar is covered in dark green glaze. It is reportedly of the Mon period (c.13th to mid 14th centuries) from the Sukhothai area. Mon wares are thought to be the earliest type of glazed wares excavated at the kilns of Ban Ko Noi, outside the old city of Si Satchanalai, in the present district of Sawankhalok. The royal cities of Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai in north-central Thailand were at the heart of one of the largest ceramic-producing centres in Southeast Asia during the 14th century. Si Satchanalai, which was later renamed Sawankhalok, came to refer to ceramics that originated from either of these two areas.
