This shard was previously part of a blue and white export ware. It is decorated with abstract geometric patterns in underglaze blue. Such blue and white wares of which this shard was from are sometimes classified under ‘southern provincial wares’ or ‘minan ware’ (wares produced in south Fujian). These wares were made for domestic use or for export and their quality is generally of a lower standard.
