Raffles Hotel was established in 1887 by the Armenian Sarkies brothers. During the Japanese Occupation, from 1942 to 1945, it continued to function as a hotel to serve the Japanese military and was called the Syonanto Hotel. Its reputation as a world-class hotel continues to this day.
