'Visiting the Injured Worker'

This print depicts an injured labourer resting on his makeshift bed; his wife (carrying an infant), his older son and himself are dressed in rags. Labour union members are visiting the injured worker. The picture captures the family’s anxiety in their appearance and body language. Often such workers were transient labourers who were not given worker’s compensation for their injuries and loss of income. Situations like this added to the general dissatisfaction with the colonial government, which was seen to be discriminatory towards the Chinese community.
