The surface of this bottle has applied decoration, which gives the surface of the vessel a textured relief. The body also features a band of elegant naskh script on a ground of spiralling leafy tendrils and a band of complex knotted Kufic-Abbasid script. The Kufic-Abbasid script refers to a group of early angular scripts that were used for copying early Qur'ans as well as for inscribing objects and architecture while the naskh is a cursive script widely used for sribal purposes.
