Picture of the Japanese surrender and victory parade

The Japanese surrendered on Aug 15, 1945, few days after the atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The formal signing of the Instrument of Surrender was held at the City Hall on September 12, 1945. This was followed by a celebration at the Padang, which included a victory parade seen in this picture. Sailors of the Royal Navy stand in the horizontal rows at the far end. The two diagonal rows at the back comprise of men of the 2896 Squadron of RAF, while the two rows in front are Australian soldiers.
