Allied Victory Parade at Scotts Road

The Japanese Occupation in Singapore officially ended with the formal surrender ceremony held in the Municipal Building (present-day City Hall) on 12 September 1945. Lord Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander (Southeast Asia), accepted the Japanese surrender by General Itagaki Seishirō at the event. A grand Allied Victory Parade was held following the surrender to celebrate the occasion and remind the local populace that their former colonial masters had returned.
