This bowl features finely worked designs done in repousse and engraving. Repousse involves raising designs upon a thin sheet of metal by hammering from the back while engraving is the practice of incising a design on to a hard, usually flat surface, by cutting grooves into it. While objects such as the bowl are not unusual, it is extraordinarily rare to find them in solid gold.
