A primate display at the Raffles Museum

This is a photograph of a primate display at the Raffles Museum. Erected in 1887, the Raffles Library and Museum - administered as a combined institution until 1955 - was the predecessor to the National Museum of Singapore today. The purpose of the museum then was to collect objects of historical and archeological value, mainly from the Eastern Archipelago region but in particular from Singapore. The zoological collection such as these bird displays have since been shifted to the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research in the National University of Singapore.
