Dr. Carl Gibson-Hill was the last expatriate director of the Raffles Museum (now National Museum of Singapore), while Dato Loke Wan Tho was the founder and chairman of the Cathay Organisation. Both were esteemed photographers who played a significant role in establishing the Singapore Camera Club (now known as the Photographic Society of Singapore) in its early years. The husband of the donor of this photograph, Huang Da Li, was an amateur photographer.
