Japanese Occupation currency - 1000 dollars

The bank note shown is part of series 3 of Japanese currency that was issued for Malaya in 1944 by the Southern Development Bank under the authority of the Japanese government. The excessive printing of the previous series had led to inflation and the lower values becoming worthless. Hence, in series 3, the notes issued were not lower than 10 dollars and was inclusive of 100 and 1000 dollars notes. The notes in this series bore the phrase "PROMISES TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND" on their front and were not serially numbered.
