This jar has two small loop handles at the side, and a simple decorative band comprising a pair of incised lines. A stylised bird is attached to the top of the lid. Vietnamese ceramics made at this time, incorporated motifs, shapes and decoration that were distinctly Chinese. While the shapes, for example, were often based on Chinese ritual bronzes, the raw materials were uniquely Vietnamese. For instance, the buff coloured stoneware and green-splashed ash glazes, which could have formed accidentally during the firing, were quite different in appearance from the green lead-glazed wares made by the Chinese potters at this time.
