This jar has moulded decoration of floral scrolls applied to the outer wall and a rich green glaze known as celadon. The base is incised with three characters: 'tian', 'chang', 'kou' (literally ‘heaven’, ‘long’, ‘mouth’). It is typical of the high quality stonewares that were produced in north Vietnam around the 14th century. The form of this jar and the celadon glaze are of Chinese origins. Many of these wares often took their inspiration from the southern Chinese celadon tradition.
