This ritualistic rice cup bears the head of a mungo or deer on a pedestal likened to a lotus.The deer represents the gentle and receptive audience to Buddha's sermon. Buddha gave his first sermon in a deer park near Sarnath upon attaining enlightenment. The lotus is the symbol of the enlightenment itself. This rice cup was used for rituals.
