The Kek Lok Si Temple is located in Air Itam in Penang. Also known as the Temple of Sukhavati or Temple of Supreme Bliss, its construction began way back in 1890.The temple houses gifts, which include a tablet and volumes of the Imperial Buddhist Sutras, bestowed by Emperor Guangxu of the late Qing Dynasty. The iconic, seven-storey Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas was completed in 1930. The pagoda, an example of the temple’s unique blend of Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist architectural influences, has a Chinese octagonal base, a Thai middle tier and a Burmese roof.
