Chettiar 'kol' (cylindrical ruler) used to draw multiple lines on account books

This long wooden ruler, known as a 'kol', was used by the Chettiars for drawing multiple lines in their account books. The instrument was stored in one of the compartments of the 'kaipeti' (hand-held box) along with other business-related items used in the 'kittangi' (Chettiar shophouse).
