Basketry by scholars of Sultan Idris Training College

Apart from the usual academic subjects such as arithmetic, Malay language and religious instruction, scholars at the Sultan Idris Training College also picked up handicraft skills. Among pottery, carpentry and netmaking, bakestry was a popular choice as it was a native craft and its materials were easily obtainable. Curriculum at this training college for Malay teachers included elementary agriculture, such as gardening, as well.
