Description

Once a common sight in the colourful kitchens of Katong’s Peranakan homes, kueh pie tee is more than just a crisp, golden snack — it’s a symbol of community, celebration, and craftsmanship. Join us for a special hands-on culinary workshop where we bring this iconic dish to life through taste, touch, and tales from a time when neighbours were family and food was love.

In this immersive session, you will:
* Learn to prepare and fill your very own kueh pie tee with fragrant braised turnip, prawns, and signature toppings
* Get up close with traditional ingredients like dried shrimp, bangkuang, and house-made sambal
* Try your hand at assembling the dish through heirloom recipes and traditional tools
* Hear fascinating stories of how women in Katong once hosted lavish tok panjang feasts, complete with handmade kueh pie tee shells and trays of colourful kuehs
* Get involved in a live demonstration of making the prized kueh pie tee shells with a kueh pie tee mould!
Each participant will take home a set of their own kueh pie tee, and a recipe sheet (or e-leaflet).

The programme will be held at Joo Chiat Community Club Reading Room Level 1 Room 103.

ABOUT MUSEUM OF FOOD

The Museum of Food looks into everything to do with food in Singapore:  from preserving the tools and recipes our grandmothers used, to passing down their skills and knowledge to the current generation, and looking at the sustainability of our heritage foods and food industry as a whole -- we're interested in it all. To dive into the numerous topics to do with Singapore's food, we're constantly doing research, testing recipes, and designing experiences to reach a range of age groups. We believe that Singapore food belongs to all of her people, and that heritage food education must be accessible to all pockets of society.
