This 1939 New York World’s Fair poster was designed by American artist, John Atherton. The 1939 New York World’s Fair was considered the largest international world expo at the time. The British Pavilion, which included a segment on British Malaya, was one of the fair’s largest offerings. Some of the displays for British Malaya included a diorama of typical Malayan scenes with decorative panels and a map frieze, as well as rotating photo displays of Malayan scenes and peoples. This was also unofficially complemented with Frank Buck’s “Jungleland”, which featured a recreation of a typical “Malay village” containing live animal and human displays.
