This programme or handbook was issued by the International Rubber Congress for an international rubber exhibition in scheduled to take place from 8th September 1914 to 10th October 1914. The International Rubber Congress and Exhibition were organised at Koningsplein or King’s Square in Batavia, under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prince of the Netherlands, Duke of Mecklenburg. However, the launch was indefinitely postponed due to the outbreak of World War I. The exhibition eventually opened to public on 19th October 1914. Over fifty thousand people visited the exhibition over the first week but over one hundred and twenty people from the Straits Settlements and the Federated States of Malaya cancelled their passages when war had broken out.
