This is a Creative Technology Sound Blaster sound card, which would have been installed in a computer’s CPU. Creative Technology was formed in Singapore in 1981, with the first Sound Blaster produced in 1989. The card was innovative for allowing IBM PC compatible computers to play audio, while providing digital audio capability and an additional game port. Previously, IBM PC compatible computers generally used an internal PC speaker with lower quality audio. The card was one of the company’s flagship products which was popular globally. This card is a model CT2950 from the Sound Blaster 16 series produced from 1992, which introduced 16-bit CD-quality audio for sound cards. It was made in Singapore. The donor purchased the Sound Blaster in secondary school during the mid-1990s. He used it for gaming, as it provided higher quality sound. The donor continued to use the sound card when completing his final year project in electrical engineering at Singapore Polytechnic in the late 1990s.
