Gift of the Khoo family in memory of Khoo Hock Choo and Doris Khoo
This set of furniture consists of a pair of four chairs, two tea tables, two long tables and a settee. It belonged to well-known sharebroker Khoo Kay Hian (1885-1966) who had them in the main living area of his home at 23 St Martin’s Drive, Singapore. In 1921, he founded Kay Hian & Co., a share broking firm that was merged with United Overseas Bank Securities in 2000 to become UOB Kay Hian. When Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) visited Singapore in 1922, Khoo Kay Hian served as the co-organiser of a miles-long lantern procession held in his honour.
