The Young Artists of Penestanan emerged in the late 1950s/early 1960s and are associated with the tutelage of Arie Smit. I Ketut Tagen was among this first generation of artists. Tagen is known for his distinctive style and innovation of painting ‘faceless’ human subjects. His treatment of foliage is also distinctive and detailed despite being flat and graphic.
