Alice Choo (1926-2019) conducted the rituals between the 1940s and 1960s. in addition to maintaining a vegetarian diet for the day, she travelled to Hokkien Street early in the morning at about 7am to buy the 12 types of kueh (cakes) such as kueh jari and kueh bulat (finger and ball-shaped dumplings), which she poked into sticks and inserted on top of the lacquer bowls. Other types of offerings included bunga sundal malam (tuberose), bunga siantan (ixora) and tebu (sugarcane).
