This Messageries Maritimes poster features the French company’s shipping line routes connecting Singapore with the region, particularly those embarked on by their new post-World War II liners, Vietnam, Cambodge and Laos. Often referred to as MesMar, the shipping company was started by Albert Rostand and Ernest Simon in France in 1851, and gradually expanded to beyond the Mediterranean by the late 19th century, before breaking into the Asia market including Singapore by the early 20th century.
