Ahmad Fuad Osman (b. 1969, Kedah, Malaysia) graduated with a BA in Fine Art from MARA Institute of Technology (UiTM). In the 1990’s, he was involved in the Malaysian film and theatre industry, and this influenced a shift in his artistic practice from painting to multi-disciplinary works encompassing installation, sculpture, print and video. Socio-political themes have long been a key concern as he investigates subjects ranging from identity politics, the abuse of power and historical amnesia. Using a potent mix of wit and philosophy, he speaks to broad spectrums of society on challenging subjects. In October 2006, Malaysians were shocked by the news of Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa, the Mongolian model who was murdered and her remains then destroyed with the aid of C4 explosives. The case remains unsolved until today. At Cross Purposes continues Ahmad Fuad Osman’s engagement with painting as a process whereby he works through social dilemmas in the medium of oil. In this painting, he combines 4 differently sized in the shape of a cross to highlight the three persons accused of the crime. The top panel is a memory trace of the victim - Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa.
