Keris blades are traditional symbols of authority and valour in Malay societies across the Malay Archipelago. Inscribed onto the keris’ scabbard is the message “PM SDR LEE KUAN YEW, HADIAH DARI PENDUDUK 2 RACE COURS (sic)” (Gift from the Residents of Race Cours [sic]) and was presented to Lee Kuan Yew.
