The Light (24:31)

Despite being almost completely obscured by a black fabric, the female body presented in Ampannee Satoh’s The Ligh (24:31) is rife with sensuality. With an incredibly direct reference to the burqa, an Arabic garment worn by women, the work straddles issues pertaining to religion, cultural traditions, the female body, as well as the male gaze.
