This photograph shows three nyonyas or Eurasian women holding books and handkerchiefs in their hands. The photograph on the verso shows a group of people gathered for a festival parade. With continuous improvement of camera technology, it became possible to take photographs outside a studio in the first decades of the 20th century. Many middle-class families collected photographs in albums as a way of documenting family life, or documentasi keluarga.
