The first Kodak camera appeared in America in 1888 and a year later the Kodak No. 1 replaced it with an improved shutter. The roll film inside could take about 100 images. The entire camera was sent back to Kodak for photographs to be developed. The prints were characteristically circular. This camera simplified photography and led to the birth of the snapshot – impulsively taken images. (The word “snapshot” was borrowed from gun terminology.)
