The Tang Shipwreck was acquired through the generous donation of the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.

This bronze dish was discovered along with various items, including ceramics, bronzewares, and precious metals in the excavation of the Tang shipwreck, a 9th-century vessel en route from China to the Middle East when it sank off the coast of Belitung Island in the Java Sea. The bronze dish was probably used by the ship's crew.
