Singhalese Manuscript on Traditional Medicine

This is a manuscript on traditional medicine, containing information on the diagnosis (symptoms and signs) of a wide range of ailments/diseases. It also contains detailed recipes and specific modes of preparation (grinding, mixing, boiling, etc) and proportions to prepare herbal concoctions that are to be consumed as medicine. Some ingredients mentioned in this book are sesame oil (thalatha), ghee (ghhetha), honey (meepeni), sugarcane (ukpeni) and a sort of ginger that is small and white (siddhinguru). It is written in Pali language in Singhalese script and is meant to be read from left to right. This book was probably written by monks who specialised in medicine. At the important site of Anuradhapura, archaeologists have found hospitals and spaces that were likely used for the making of medicines.
