With a singing career that spanned more than 40 years, the name Huang Qing Yuan will ring a bell to those who remember the local popular music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1965, Huang won the singing competition organised by the Ministry of National Development in which he sang 'Ludao Xiaoyequ' (Serenade of the Green Island), a Chinese classic. Huang’s fame soared and he went on to release several records thereafter.
