This blue and white bowl has steep rounded sides and a slightly flaring rim. The exterior is painted with two tiers of panels containing floral motifs.Uncovered from an English shipwreck called ‘Diana’ that sank off the Straits of Malacca in 1817, this bowl is one of the many Jingdezhen export wares found on the ship. Jingdezhen has a long history of producing blue and white export wares which they knew from experience were popular with the Western market.
