This Ming-style blue and white bowl has a tall-foot, sharply curving sides and a wide rim. It is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with arabsque designs below the rim and stylised lotus leaf panels spreading out from the foot. The bowl is made in imitation of blue and white porcelain from Emperor Xuande’s reign (1426-1435) during the Ming dynasty. Xuande blue and white is one of the most celebrated and sought-after porcelains. It is highly valued for the rich cobalt blue colour and the unique arabesque designs, both showing West Asian influence.
