This flat, shallow and thinly potted dish with a foliated rim is covered in 'Qingbai' glaze, so-called because of its characteristic icy bluish-white quality. Qingbai wares were developed during the Song dynasty (960-1279). Produced in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, they were exported in large quantities to Southeast Asia from the 12th century onwards. This piece was excavated in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Such qingbai wares were export wares made especially for the Indonesian market.
