The first Kingsclere Hotel was situated at Caine Road but this soon gave way to a new entity along Kennedy Road that was opened in 1906. This second hotel was initially the private residence of Emanual Raphel Belilios, a Jewish businessman who made his fortune in the opium trade. A popular social venue for Europeans in Hong Kong, the site where the hotel was situated on was sold to a consortium in the 1920s for redevelopment into private residences.
