This 'sarung' or tube skirt has cotton base over which gold leaf or gold dust has been applied to create the patterns. Gluework patterns are first hand-drawn or stamped onto the cloth with wooden blocks, and then the fine gold leaf or gold dust is applied. This technique is known as 'prada' or 'telepok'. The full gold embellishment of a 'sarung' is not common and this example suggests that it may have been owned by a wealthier patron.'Telepuk' cloths were made into sarong and shawls for women, waistcloths and headdresses for men. They were worn only on special occasions and especially at weddings.
