Sharifah Fatimah Zubir was born in Alor Star, Kedah in 1948. She received a Diploma in Fine Art from MARA before proceeding to obtain an MFA from Pratt Institute, New York. Zubir works in an abstract expressionist style of vibrant colours and energetic brushstrokes. Shapes are juxtaposed in dynamic compositions. In 2007, she became the first female artist in Malaysia to receive the title of Datuk.
