This is a postcard addressed to Quah Chin Siong, Danny, from his to-be wife Soh Beow Seng, Nancy, during her trip to Britain in 1974. The front shows a photograph of a flight stewardess from Singapore Airlines (SIA), while the back bears the company’s name and logo, a 5 pence British postage stamp, as well as a postmark from Hounslow, Middlesex, dated 23 June 1974. Upon completing her 'O' Level exams, Nancy pursued further studies in computing and was eventually hired as one of the first batches of flight operation staff in SIA– a job which required her to travel frequently. This postcard is part of a set of documents, including birthday cards and photographs, recording exchanges between the couple during their courtship, leading up to their wedding ceremony. Collectively, the items chronicle events in the relationship trajectory of a middle class couple in the 1970s, at the same time shining light into the family lives of one of Singapore’s early Chinese business trailblazers -- Quah Chin Lai, and his grandson Quah Chin Siong.
