This medal was struck in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897, and issued in gold, silver and bronze according to one's rank and status. Government officials, particularly those who organized or took part in the jubilee celebrations in the British Empire, generally received silver or bronze. This particular medal was a standard issue medal. It was likely that this medal was sent to the Raffles Museum by the Colonial Secretary's Office as a keepsake.
