The Malaya-Borneo Exhibition was held for a week at Singapore in March to April 1922, conceived by Governor Sir Lawrence Guillemard to coincide with the visit of Edward VIII, Prince of Wales, to Singapore. The size of the Exhibition grounds stretched from Telok Ayer Market to Mount Palmer, at around 26 hectares, with the main entrance at Robinson Road. The Exhibition was also the first time that exhibits from Singapore, Malaya and Borneo were presented together in the same space, with guest exhibits from the Australian colonies. Although primarily focused on exhibiting trade goods, the Exhibition also featured model villages, and an array of land and sea sports. The first purpose-built stadium with grandstands in Singapore was also built as a centrepiece of the Exhibition at Anson Road. It was estimated that approximately 300,000 visitors attended the Exhibition during its run. At the end of the Exhibition, medals and prizes were awarded to outstanding exhibits, but occasionally persons. Amongst the recipients of the bronze medal from the Exhibition included the Pulau Brani Coral Sellers for their display of shells, Mr Lim Chwee Chian of Singapore, for free transport of collection from Terengganu, and Mr Mohammed Ali, for caring of the collection during its stay in Singapore.
